Commissioning a Masterpiece

The Journey from Vision to Canvas

Bringing a custom artwork to life is a collaborative dance between your vision and my artistic practice. Whether you are looking for a monumental mural or an intimate, expressive portrait, I follow a structured process to ensure the final piece resonates deeply with your space and story.

Every project begins with a conversation. In this first contact, we define the "skeleton" of the commission.

  • The Format — Is this a large-scale indoor/outdoor mural, or a commissioned portrait on canvas?
  • The Dimensions — We discuss the physical space and the impact you want the piece to have.
  • The Narrative — What should the piece depict? You may have a specific subject in mind, or you might want me to interpret a broader concept.

If you have reference photos, this is where we analyze them. We will discuss your vision, your references, and the feel you are after.

  • Fidelity to Model — Do you want a recognizable, soulful likeness, or a more abstract, "Capoeira Painting" interpretation where movement takes precedence?
  • Visual Elements — You are encouraged to share textures, colors, or symbols that hold personal meaning.

To protect both the artist and the collector, the process is formalized once the scope is agreed upon.

  • The Deposit — A first deposit (typically 50%) is required to schedule the work and begin the conceptual phase.
  • Transparency — You will receive a professional invoice detailing the timeline, materials, and delivery terms.

Once the deposit is secured, I move into the studio to create the initial sketches.

  • Defining the Flow — These sketches focus on composition, balance, and the "energy" of the piece.
  • Refinement — My process typically allows for two rounds of revisions at the sketch stage, ensuring we are perfectly aligned before the first drop of paint hits the canvas.

As the painting begins, I apply my signature "Capoeira Painting" technique — a fusion of martial fluidity and spontaneous expression.

  • Color Palette — While we define a primary color direction early on, I allow the energy of the session to dictate the final nuances, ensuring a piece that feels alive and unforced.
  • Final Approval — I will share high-resolution photos or a video of the finished work for your final confirmation.

The journey concludes only when the artwork is safely in your hands.

  • Final Payment — The remaining balance is settled upon completion.
  • Certificate of Authenticity — Every original work is accompanied by a signed and embossed Certificate of Authenticity, guaranteeing the provenance and value of your Henri Lamy original.
  • Shipping & Installation — For murals, I manage the on-site execution; for canvases, I coordinate professional, insured worldwide shipping.
