This reinterpretation of Delacroix’s Liberty Leading the People was commissioned by a childhood friend, and that changed the painting for me from the start. I was not only looking at a great French image of revolution, I was painting something tied to our shared roots, our memories, and the fire we grew up with. I pushed the barricades through thick paint, electric yellows, and deep purples so the scene would feel hot, noisy, and alive again. In the end, Liberté became as personal as it is historical.
