KNYSNA – French artist Henri Lamy opens a new exhibition at Entabeni Farm, Erf 4015 on Welbedacht Lane, on 16 March.
The evening is open to the public and includes an interactive presentation of the work, with a capoeira painting performance as part of the program.
Lamy brings together the movement of this African/Brazilian martial art and the movement already present in his painting.
He works mainly with paint on canvas and has also been exploring found objects. The images in this exhibition come from daily life in the Knysna area, observed during his travels and residency.
Lamy is in Knysna for a two-month artist residency hosted by the Belgian organisation SAFFCA. Although he has already exhibited widely in Europe, the United States, China, Thailand, and the Philippines, this is his first exhibition in South Africa.
He is represented by Fitz Contemporary in the United States, the Pinto Art Museum and Altromondo Contemporanea in the Philippines, and Bouillon D’arts in France. Proceeds from the exhibition are planned to support a local charity.
