About this work
This painting came from a place where grief and gratitude were tangled together. At the center I placed my friend, the sculptor Agnes Arellano, as a blue multi-armed presence strong enough to hold the image of my dying grandfather in his medical chair. Around them I folded pieces of my own life, from learning to walk on my hands as a child to walking through Tokyo with a canvas on my back, even an evolved Tintin, all carried by toxic pinks and celestial blues like a ritual for staying alive.
