Pick Up

This is another fragment of life I carried back from Knysna. I could not ignore that the pick-up trucks were driven by white men while Black workers filled the back, and yet the faces I saw were still smiling. I painted that contradiction directly, letting the structure of the scene hold against the loose movement of my strokes.
