Vauban

My eyes kept returning to this steep district of Marseille and the way the street pulls the body upward. I broke the exact view apart in color because I wanted the neighborhood’s force, not just its outline. The painting is also a tribute to my beginnings at 59 Rivoli in Paris, and if you look closely, my own studio appears at the end of the street with the green door.
