View from the Ruins

This painting keeps the atmosphere of The Ruins in Poblacion, Manila, during the two-year residency of Ugnayan sa Poblacion, co-produced by Taverne Gutenberg and Maïa d’Aboville with the support of Z Hostel. I wanted the shared studio life of Alex Beretta, Chufy, and Abdoul Khadre Seck to stay visible there, along with Dondi Katigbak’s sculpture and my own bicycle moving through the mess and energy of the place. For me, it is a memory of a true third place where artists lived and remade the city together.
