LOST TRANSPORTATION with Mark Nicdao

The "Lost Transportation" exhibition at The Ruins in Poblacion marked a pivotal moment for the Ugnayan sa Poblacion residency program. This unique showcase was made possible through the collaboration with the Taverne Gutenberg residency and was realized thanks to the support of Z Hostel, who generously provided the space to host this dialogue between two distinct artistic mediums.

The series consisted of approximately fifteen photographs captured by Mark Nicdao, a titan of Filipino photography whose international standing is underscored by the fact that his work is part of the J. Paul Getty Museum’s permanent collection in Los Angeles. His portrait of Queen Melo stands as a significant milestone, representing one of the few artists from Southeast Asia to be acquired by such a prestigious global institution.

In this collaboration, Mark’s cinematic photography served as the foundation for a contemporary transformation. Each print was meticulously touched up by Henri’s signature palette knife technique, adding a tactile, sculptural dimension to the images. The heavy textures of the blade met the precision of the lens, creating a series of works that felt both grounded and ethereal.

"Lost Transportation" featured an extraordinary cast of models and icons, including Rhian Ramos, Lovi Poe, Jill Orbina, Solenn Heussaff, Ellen Adarna, Anne Curtis, KC Conception, Bea Alonzo and the legendary Cherie Gil. Set against the storied, time-worn walls of The Ruins, the exhibition was more than just a gallery showing; it was a celebration of cross-cultural exchange and the vibrant creative energy that defines the heart of Poblacion.
